FEAST: Christ the King [C] November 20, 2016

As a response to the rising secular tide denying God’s absolute and perfect sovereignty over all, the Feast of Christ the King has been celebrated in the universal Church since 1925. Non-Christian dictators in Europe and elsewhere were seeking to assert ultimate authority over peoples and suspend religious liberties. We rightly celebrate the inherent dignity all people have to worship Almighty God and to live their faith.

Luke 23:35-43

The Gospel Reading draws our attention to the inscription placed above the Crucified One. It all comes perfectly into focus: God’s Kingdom is the Kingdom of Christ. Thus the ancient cry of the Psalms, “God is King”, is transformed into “Christ is King.”
