Holy Orders

“Jesus said to the disciples, ‘whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all’.”

Mark 10:43-45

Together with the Sacrament of Matrimony, Holy Orders is an exceptionally personal response of the Christian to the call of Christ.

Holy Orders is the Sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to His apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time. With the exception of Holy Orders and Confirmation, which are reserved to the (diocesan) bishop, the priest is the principle administrator of the Sacraments.

There are three degrees of Holy Orders each of which receives the Sacrament: deacons, priests and bishops.
