The Gospel Reading this Sunday, the First Sunday of Lent, is the dramatic encounter of Jesus being tempted by the devil in the desert (Luke 4:1-13).
The devil does not discriminate. No one ought ever to imagine themselves exempt from the temptation of the devil. By His example, Jesus teaches us that the trials besetting us – however difficult – are opportunities for us to draw closer to God. Always.
Fire has two effects: incineration or purification. Imitate Jesus. Let divine grace purify when facing adversity.
