Lord, Please Let Me See! (11/14)

Today’s Gospel relays an episode as Jesus makes His way to Jerusalem. “As he approached Jericho a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging” (Luke 18:35).

Several Church Fathers explain that the blind man represents all those who do not see God’s light clearly.

For sure there are times when we all find the going to be difficult. The direction that may have been clear becomes uncertain. The confidence and resolve moving us purposefully along our way becomes lacking or altogether seems to vanish.

Sometimes the Lord may permit a period of obscurity that likens an eclipse as a means of deepening our trust in HIm and to lean on Him – that is, really to need Him as our Savior and Messiah. When the way is obscured everything demands more effort. The pace slows as if we are finding our way through a crowded construction zone.

What are we to do?

The blind man of Jericho – Bartimaeus – gives us the example to follow. “Lord, please let me see” (Luke 18:41). Go to the Lord Jesus even more sincerely and intently. He always is near.  He always responds mercifully and generously.  He always knows our plight. Lord, please let me see!
