Something strange is underway. Only a few days ago Jesus is speaking freely in the Temple after having been joyously received by the multitudes upon his entry into Jerusalem. The scene quickly turns for jubilation to condemnation.
There are indications of this upon Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem when religious leaders in the crowd sharply demand that Jesus rebukes His disciples (cf. Luke 19:39). However, there is no silencing the power and glory of God. Soon, very soon, God’s majesty will be seen most splendidly against the backdrop first of Jesus’ extreme suffering and eventual death – a suffering and death endured expressly for us and our salvation.
