Alarming Trends / Pew Research Data (5/14)

Earlier this week the PEW RESEARCH CENTER released more findings from their surveys regarding religious practices in the United States. Rest assured, the news hardly is good.

Based on interviews with more than 35,000 Americans in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia from 2007 – 2014:

  • Americans practicing Christianty continues to decline (Protestants dropping to 14.7% from 18.1% and Catholics falling to 20.8% from 23.9%)
  • Americans who claim no religious affiliation continues to climb (“nones” increased to 22.8% from 16.1%)
  • Only 56% of young millenials – those born between 1990 and 1996 – identify themselves as Christian, compared with 70% of Generation X, 78% of baby boomers and 85% of htose born between 1928 and 1945

When Christ Jesus tells us to proclaim His Gospel to everyone, He is expecting a clear and compelling response that leads more people to Him, not away from Him.

It seems we had best improve our evangelizing efforts which always begin with growing in our own understanding and practice of our Christian faith.
