Advent is a summons to purity of heart. Far too many people are prevented from seeing God’s splendor this time of year because their hearts are gorged with material things, packed with filth and loaded with misery. It need not be so! An unclean heart leads to increasing insensitivity toward the things of God and the genuine good of others. In contrast a pure heart springs with gratitude, radiates joy and displays genuine love for God and other people.
Remember, too, that Our Lord describes as blessed and happy those who seek to purify their hearts (cf. Matthew 5:8).
