JESUS’ supreme commandment is to love: “You shall love the Lord your God with all heart, with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). According to Jesus, this commandment contains all the others and is for everyone.
On the eve of her passing into heaven, little THERESE said to her sister Celine: “I have said everything. Everything is accomplished. It is love alone that counts.”
Here on earth love proves itself by free choice. When a person loves, they choose what they prefer. Jesus wants to be chosen, to be preferred. How many times we have the occasions throughout the day we have the chance to choose Him, to prefer Him! What power we have against temptation whenever we dare to say, “I choose you, Jesus, because I love you.”
It has been well said that religion is not something; it is Someone. It is God with us. It is Jesus, chosen and preferred.
