“Why be envious because I am generous?” (Matthew 20:16)
The parable Jesus tells about vineyard workers is not intended to be a lesson in labor relations! Rather, Jesus wants us to understand that God’s grace is pure gift and He eagerly provides us with all we need. Through this story, Jesus explains that our daily wage is God’s grace. The greatness of God’s designs always goes so far beyond our dreamiest scheming.
Let us not grumble over what we seem to lack and instead strive to see more clearly God’s presence and power in our daily living. According to the story, we have to get in line to receive our daily wage. Expect God’s generous provisions today and every day.
