The Gospel summons us to stay alert and remain awake. What does this mean? Properly understood, biblical wakefulness is not beset with anxiety and fear like a child who tensely instists on staying up because of nighttime worries. Intentional disciples are looking forward to Our Lord’s coming eagerly and expectantly. We see this in believers who are striving relentlessly to bring Jesus to everyone they encounter along their way. They stay alert for opportunties to be instruments of mercy and peace and remain awake to see God’s glory.
Resist temptations to walk through the day sleepy and indifferent.
