Unity Seen and Shared (3/29)

“The community of believers was of one heart and mind” (Acts 4:32).

According the testimony provided by the Acts of the Apostles, an unmistakable unity and genuine care for everyone is a distinguishing feature of the earliest followers of Jesus.  This is precisely what fascinated their neighbors and colleagues and gave them pause to ponder. Of course, who among us isn’t deeply moved when we encounter a joyful attitude and makes for a real sense of belonging?

Jesus clearly instructs that His Church will be marked by unity.  This divinely chartered harmony will arise from a single profession of faith, one form of worship and a solitary hierarchical authority constituted by Christ Jesus Himself.

The first Christians defended this unity of theirs to the point of facing persecution and even martyrdom.

How different would it be if we passionately committed ourselves to fostering unity in our homes, neighborhoods and parishes? Pray, today, to be the instrument of unity and agent of peace Christ calls us to be and members of His Church.
