THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT 3/23

The story of Jesus’ meeting the Samaitan woman and the Samaritan community (John 4:5-42) teaches us about the true process of faith.

Beginning with no faith in Jesus, a curiosity is awakened within her about the identity of Jesus (v. 9). Her curiosity gives way to confusion (v. 11) and then deepening concern about Him (v. 18). Finally, her conversion is experienced (v. 28). In Jesus she finds something far more meaningful and fulfilling than her former existence, symbolized by her leaving behind her water jar, and hurriedly telling the rest of her community about her astonishing discovery and becomes the very means for others to discover Jesus (vv. 28-30).
