THE EXISTENCE OF THE DEVIL

The devil exists. Holy Scripture speaks of the devil from the first book (Genesis) to the last book (Revelation). The activities of the devil are mysteirous and real. Human history attests that the devil’s activity also remains effective in our own age.

Remember: the devil hates the Cross and always seeks to divide and fracture our relationship with Christ Jesus, His Church and His Holy Sacraments.

Saint John Vianney, the beloved Cure d’Ars, teaches us that “the devil is a great chained dog which puts people to flight, which makes a great noise, but which only bites those who come to close.” This blessed insight from a saint echoes the prayer Jesus taught us to pray: “lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil.”

Jesus Christ is the true victor over the devil and all that is dark, twisted and evil. Nevertheless, the devil continues to retain a certain power over the world to the degree people reject Jesus as the one and only Lord, Savior and Messiah of us all.
