The Biblical Meaning of Heart (6/12)

In the biblical literature, the HEART is neither a flesh pump nor an emotional reservoir. Rather, the Bible employes the heart as a symbol of the very source of human animation and life. That is, the heart is where the divine image in Whom we are made resides. It is the presence and power of God’s infinite love within us.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that the desire for God is written in the human heart (CCC, 27). That is, at the very core of our being  – in the depths of our soul – we long for the living God because God made us to do so.
