Stretch Out Your Hand (9/7)

Jesus said to the man [whose right hand was withered], “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was restored. (Luke 6:10)

We don’t know what truly is possible until we are stretched to think and act beyond what we find comfortable and easy.

Mediocrity paralyzes the body, mind and spirit. It makes even the smallest effort seem too difficult – e.g. a letter we should write, a call we should make, a visit that we should do, a conversation that should take place, punctuality toward others throughout the day.

Mediocrity leads one to think that even though the Lord Jesus asks for them to stretch out their hand they cannot even do that much.

Our Lord continuously says to us, “Stretch out your hand.” Despite our faults and failures, small efforts inspired by the Holy Spirit will overcome our fears and defects – e.g speaking positively, smiling, creating an encouraging climate around us even when we are tired and feeling otherwise, not saying things that annoy and irritate, remaining calm and patient when things seem to get in the way, reaching out to a friend in need, checking in with someone who is under the weather, etc…

Holiness depends on our taking to heart Jesus’ demands. Pay attention to what our Lord tells us and expect things formerly impossible to become possible.
