Giuseppe Sarto was born in 1835. While serving the Church as Pope Pius X (1903-1914), he vigorously promoted the interests of the Church in a rapidly changing world and increasingly industrial culture that was rushing to world war. Above all else he sought to inspire deepening personal and parish piety among the members of the Church, especially encouraging more frequent reception of Holy Communion by adults and children alike.
