Repentance and Renewal

Our Lord Jesus looks at Judas and tells him to depart and return when the betrayal is at hand. Later during the same meal, Our Lord Jesus looks also at Peter and warns him about a threefold public denial he will make before the very same night is spent.

Peter weeps bitterly in the courtyard and repents when he betrays. Judas does not repent. Peter’s repentance is heartfelt sorrow for his sins out of a deep and genuine love for Jesus. A more robust faith is hatched out of Peter’s denials – a lively faith that will inspire a martyr’s death.

Genuine contrition for the sins we commit out of our love for God instantly unites us with our Our Jesus and draws us even closer to Him.
