Preaching Notes (Sun) September 17

The words we pray simply are astonishing.

“Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

We will not be forgiven unless we forgive. There is no clearer instruction given to us by our Blessed Lord Jesus in all the Gospels. There is no reducing the supreme importance of forgiveness.

So, then, when I’ve been hurt or offended, how do I forgive?

Step One

Determine in your heart that you want to forgive this person (group).

Step Two

Ask God to help you release your feelings of bitterness, resentment or hatred.

Step Three

Acknowledge that it is God’s role – not yours – to judge the person (group) for their actions.

Step 4

Ask God to help you release the person (group) from your judgement.

Step 5

Pray that God blesses the person (group) you are forgiving.

Follow these steps as they are sequenced. Repeat them. Repeat them again.
