Preaching Notes (Sun) 3/4

In today’s Gospel Jesus exclaims, “Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace” (John 2:16).

These words of our blessed Lord have to do with far more than the brick and mortar of the Jerusalem Temple. Saint Paul elaborates the more complete meaning of Jesus’ words: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit?” (1 Corinthians 6:19).

God wants to dwell in your body. He wants to make His home in you.

What are you waiting for?

What in your body – your home, your daily living – most needs to be cleansed and purified or altogether stopped?

What is most important to change? What do you know you have to begin doing differently? From what is repentance needed? Who must you forgive or from whom be forgiven? What anxiety and fear most needs to be relinquished? What sin simply has to go?

God wants you to become no less than a living monstrance of His holy Presence in the world.
