The Lord Jesus founded His Church on a combination of human weakness and human fidelity; for sure, a most interesting blending of the worst and best of humanity. To these hand-picked men whom the Sacred Scriptures call “apostles”, Jesus pledged the perpetual gift and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
By the end of the second century Christians are found throughout the Roman Empire. Jesus’ promise made is a promise kept. Take note: from the beginning the call of Christ is not to flee the world, but to transform it. Followers of Jesus and members of His Church live in the world and by means of their prayer, example and charity dare to make wherever they are a truly better place.
