Living Humbly and Happily (8/29)

“Conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts” (Sirach 3:17).

Humility comes from an ancient word whose meaning is “soil” or “ground”. Being humble means being grounded. Today we might describe the humble person as being real, genuine and authentic. There is no falsity and no pretending which brings forth the trust and admiration of others who are seeking to be more grounded in their daily living.

Actually, humility is a sign of great courage. Those who are humble no longer are beholden to the criticisms as well as the praises of others. They no longer permit others determine their own self-worth, be it negative or positive.

To be humble is to know who you are to be accepting of your existence.

Honesty is closely connected with humility.  Truthful humiliation likens a supernatural solvent that strips away layers of pretentiousness. That is, it takes us to the ground of our being, to our authentic self.
