Lent First Sunday [B] 2/22/15

Genesis 9:8-15

The First Reading makes known God’s desire for humanity to be in perfect harmony and genuine oneness with Him. God establishes His covenant with Noah. With this is the promise of an ultimate state of reconciliation between divinity and humanity. The flood belongs to the never recurring past. Ours properly is a future full of hope.

Mark 1:12-15

No sooner is Jesus baptized by John, than the Spirit drives Jesus into the wilderness where Satan tempts Him. So, too, do we live in the world where temptations assail us. Daily living, even for Christians, is a struggle.  Intentional disciples, however, imitate the words and actions of Our Lord who teaches us in today’s Gospel Reading that we are to set aside all worldly ambitions and earthly desires in order to announce God’s Kingdom effectively.
