Jesus Cleanses the Temple: A Lesson On True Worship (3/6)

The Jewish feast of Passover is the motivation for Jesus going up to Jerusalem and His presence in the Temple (John 2:13-25). Before the destruction of the Temple (70 AD) the annual visit to Jerusalem for the celebration of Passover was a major event for the city of Jerusalem. Jesus drives the sellers and their livestock out of the Temple because what they are doing there is not true worship. The sacrifices mean nothing. We witness the Temple having devolved into nothing more than a place for commerce and self-promotion.

True worship happens when inward attitude matches outward action.  May ours be the attitude of increasing humility and littleness before our Almighty God and Father which leads to worship and praise of Him that is more wholehearted and joyful and grateful.
