In an especially touching way, Jesus expresses His tender love for humanity comparing Himself to the Good Shepherd.
“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep” (John 10:14-15).
Jesus likens His union with us to the union He savors with His Father.
Jesus sees and knowns the Father in the splendor of His glory, and He also sees and knows each one of us in the reality of our sorrows, struggles and longings. He loves the Father and gives Himself entirely for His glory and He loves each one of us and gives Himself completely for our salvation.
Stated differently, Jesus sees and knows us only in the Father and in relation to Him.
