Holy Family (12/28)

Today the Church directs our attention to Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

The very first thing Jesus sanctifies by His presence is a family.

Here is what we don’t hear about Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Nothing extraordinary happens during the years in Nazareth where Jesus spent the greater part of His life. Their family is all about doing little things with great love. They make a place for God right at the very center of the love they have for each other. It never is God and them; instead it always is God in themGod with them and God leading them.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph we see the family as the place where ordinariness is blessed.

Years later ordinary family activities will be heard time and again in Jesus’ preaching.

Here are a few questions we can ask in our prayer today.

  • What is our home like?
  • How do we dedicate the time and attention our family members need and deserve?
  • Is Jesus at the center?
  • In our family, how are we living for each other?
