God’s Mercy Triumps (4/8)

In yesterday’s Gospel, a woman is brought to Jesus by Pharisees and scribes who haven’t the slightest concern for her (John 8:1-11). They want only to use her to bring down Jesus. Shameful.

They had tried to arrest Jesus earlier (7:44). They desperately seek a reason to haul Him away, willing even to exploit one unable to give voice to her plight and their savage injustice. Disgraceful.

Noticeably absent is the other complicit in the act. How did he get away? He must have been a part of the twisted plot. He may be standing admit the mob, fueling the frenzy. The woman is just a pawn in their plot. Cowardly.

Jesus extends merciful love to her and to all. Salvific.
