God’s Gift of Peace

Real and genuine peace is neither a superficial detente nor some vague sentiment. Properly understood and experienced, peace is God’s gift.

Jesus bestows the gift of His presence and power to us which we receive as peace. He says not once by twice to His disciples, “Peace be with you” (John 20:19, 21).

Christ’s peace comes about when we are ordered inwardly; that is, when we sincerely and humbly place God first in our daily living. It comes about to the degree we are aware of our own failings and having been restored through divine grace. It is a fruit of respecting and reverencing others. It always grows as our confidence in God increases.

Conversely, our peace is lost through selfishness, by not living in the light of God’s truth, by no longer seeking God.

Intentional disciples live as instruments of God’s peace among all people.
