Responding to Christ’s Call (1/22)

In today’s Gospel Jesus says, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).

The call of Christ is not confined to a few simple laborers from Galilee two thousand years ago. Indeed, Our Lord calls us now to hear His words and to make them our own way for living. Like the first disciples, the same light of faith enables us to grow in understanding and practice of the authentic teachings of Christ Jesus and His Church.

When we dare to respond obediently and wholeheartedly to Jesus, the results are real and lasting. Hear and heed His call!

Genuine followers of Jesus instill hope within those whom they encounter – family, friends, colleagues and strangers. Their love for God and care for others make faith attractive and compelling.

Faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior and Messiah is the remedy for all evils that assail us in the world of time. Without Christ, darkness prevails, confusion abounds and discouragement devours.
