Today’s feast heightens our love for the Church to which we belong.

The “chair” of Peter represents the authority Christ Jesus gave to Peter and his successors – the popes. Christ Jesus established One Church – one “chair.” He forever remains Founder and Head.

  • “The Lord is one. The Church is one. The Chair founded by Christ is one” (Cyprian of Carthage, +258).
  • “Where Peter is, there is the Church” (Ambrose of Milan, +397).
  • “I am a daughter of the Church” (Teresa of Avila, +1582).
