There are some who think the Church’s regard for Mary is over the top. The Church did not make Mary important; it was Christ Jesus Himself. Never has the Church adored Mary for God alone is to be adored. However, God’s Word sounds perfectly on this truthful note: of all creatures, Mary is closest to God
The Church Fathers use the sun and moon to help us grow in understanding. The God Who made the sun also made the moon. The latter dies nothing to diminish the former celestial body’s luminosity. Indeed, we only see the moon bceause of the sun’s brilliance. Mary beautifully reflects her Divine Son without Whom she is nothing.
