Cultivating a Contrite Heart (3/17)

“With contrite heart and humble spirit let us be received” (Daniel 3:39).

Earlier today at Mass, these words from the prophet Daniel resounded. Charity changes the human heart in ways that makes room, even for those who do not understand us or fail to respond to our genuine care and concern.

These days it is more than enough simply to smile, to change direction in conversation – whether real or virtual, to make a simple gesture of positive acknowledgement. Little things which happen in daily living are enough.

Fight temptations for charity to grow cold all-the-while the future is uncertain and many are afraid.

After all, the Christian way is kindness and it comes about from a contrite heart and humble spirit.
