How are we to make sense of these astonishing words of our Blessed Lord Jesus?
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it (John 14:14).
1) To ask in His name means to have strong and robust faith in His resurrection and in His mercy. That is, you wholeheartedly believe this to be true.
2) It means asking for those natural and supernatural items that are good for our salvation. Only that which is truly good – i.e. leading us closer to heaven – can flow forth from His name.
3) Our Lord will not leave us if we do not leave Him. Jesus deeply desires to provide us with everything we really need to draw closer to Him. Stated differntly, Jesus will give us what is genuinely good so long as we sincerely ask.
