Agony in the Garden (4/8)

Loneliness is one of the hardest trials to bear. In this time of pandemic we are so alone, and some quite intensely. We all want to receive a comforting word and it is especially disheartening when there is no one to whom we immediately can turn.

Saint Thérèse, the Little Flower, had a special devotion to the mysteries of Our Lord’s life in which He is most lonely. She received the grace of desire to show her love to Our Lord by comforting Him in His loneliness, explaining in her own words:  It is for us to console Our Lord, and not for Him always to be consoling us”

Accordingly, she imagines Our blessed Lord in the Garden and tries to console Him with her love. Let us imitate her and set aside our own griefs and seek to comfort Him for all the sufferings that our sins have caused Him.
