Yesterday at Mass we heard the story of Jesus’ miraculous feeding of thousands (John 6:1-15).
At the end of the episode, Jesus issues this curious instruction to His disciples.
“Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted” (John 6:12).
Compared to His astonishing miracle it sounds unimportant and even trivial. And yet, that is what our blessed Lord tells us to do.
Intentional disciples know that little things matter.
- Steering clear of gossip, whether reading it or adding to it.
- Withholding an opinion to avoid an argument.
- Listening attentively to someone we find difficult.
- Performing small acts of kindness simply because it’s the right way to treat others in need.
Gather the fragments so that nothing will be wasted today.
