Today is Palm Sunday. We begin Holy Week recalling Jesus’ triumphal entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. The palms blessed and received at church are meant to spur us on in our commitment to accompany Jesus throughout the week, to conquer with Jesus by keeping our sights set squarely on His Cross by means of which He has redeemed the world.
Jesus only now permits Himself to be publicly acclaimed as the Messiah because His passion is at hand. In John’s account, Jesus’ hour has arrived.
Jesus only now lets Himself be heralded as King, but a King who will reign from the Cross, who will triumph and conquer by dying on the Cross
