Jesus uses two more images to emphasize the ultimate importance of God’s Kingdom (Matthew 13:44-46).
The treasure accents God’s unexpected super abundance. We image people mindlessly walking atop the treasure in the field. It is there all along and unrecognized! Finally stumbled upon it represents a sudden and unexpected in-breaking of divine grace.
The pearl is discovered as a result of a deliberate search.
Whether God is found surprisingly or after much effort, the result is the same: unbridled joy!
Intentional disciples understand the supreme value of what Jesus offers and go “all in”; that it, it is worth staking everything to obtain it.
