It’s Hard to be Humble (9/3)

Humility is to charity what the foundation is to a building. Although the foundation is separate from the building, it is essential. The more secure the foundation, the more stable the structure. In this very way humility is the bedrock of Christian life and intentional discipleship.

Sometimes God applies a severe mercy to deepen the virtue of humility through a humiliation. However, we always can choose to be humble in a variety of meaningful ways every day and thereby reinforce our foundation for Christian living. .

    • Sincerely take to heart criticisms voiced by others who care.
    • Resist temptations to inflate self-importance.
    • Ignore urges to have the final word.
    • Move from being the center of attention to helping those on the periphery.
    • Admit mistakes – especially when having stubbornly insisted we were right.
    • Greet others kindly including those who interrupt our plans.
    • Receive the assistance of others gratefully.
