8 Great Things about Mary’s Assumption (8/15)

  1. Mary is unique. The Second Person of the Blessed Trinity is born of her flesh. God the Son took residence in her womb and shared her very life. While many artists have sought to depict Jesus, this we know with certainty: Jesus resembled Mary.
  2. Jesus ascended to heaven under His own power. Mary is assumed by His divine power. Jesus always is the source and summit. Mary reflects God’s glory just as the moon reflects the sun. God humbled Himself to become one like us in all things but sin. Mary rightly is elevated to join Him forever.
  3. Scripture presents Mary as the new Ark of the Covenant. Recall the Old Testament Ark of the Covenant contained God’s manna and the God’s Law written upon the two stone tablets. Mary contains the Bread of Heaven and the Fulfillment of the Law.
  4. Scripture also reveals Mary as being the new Eve. Eve turned away from God. Mary opens herself completely to God. Eve lost everything through disobedience. Mary gains everything through obedience.
  5. Where Mary has gone we all can hope to follow. Mary opens the way for all who wish to follow her Son.
  6. Our citizenship is in heaven.
  7. Mary’s Assumption into heaven shines even more brightly when set against the darkness of suffering that marks out journey across the earthly stage. We are made by God to be with Him for eternity.
  8. Like all the saints in heaven, Mary is consumed by the divine love and wants us all to know what she knows to be perfectly true. Always and everywhere she seeks to help us draw closer to Her Son, Jesus.
