In the Old Testament the Lord God is revealed as the true light of Israel. Without the Lord God, the chosen people stumble and lose their way. Time and again prophets herald the people to turn back to the Lord God in order to be led safely through their perilous moments. In the New Testament Jesus promises the Spirit of truth. The Spirit is no less than the very soul of the Church. The Spirit illumines the minds of faithful and explains the deep meaning of Jesus’ words and actions.
