“Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land the LORD your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12).
The Fourth Commandment is so pleasing to God that He promises a long life to those who keep it.
From God’s perspective a life is long when it is filled with meaning and legacy. This is precisely what happens when parents are respected and loved. Fullness of life is not measured in years but by fruits that are produced. Thus, a really long life is promised to be experienced when one’s life overflows with virtuous activities that help others to know and experience God’s goodness, especially parents.
