FEAST / Saint Stephen (12/26)

In her love for us, the Church seeks to help us realize that intentional disciples always are marked by Jesus’ Cross. As we grow in understanding and practice of the faith, we assuredly will experience difficult situations and attacks by enemies of God. Indeed, the world in which we live is increasingly heathen and hostile toward Almighty God.

When Christ calls us, He knows all our personal shortcomings as well as the challenges we will face as His friends. When the challenges occur, Jesus always will be at our side helping us. It is for us to cling to this truth and to avail ourselves of the divine assistance He desires to give.

Let us not be dismayed by trials and tribulations we experience as we make our way nearer to Christ Jesus. Ask Our Blessed Lord for the grace to imitate SAINT STEPHEN whose own blood was the first to be poured out for Christ Jesus (Acts of the Apostles 7). Pray especially for Saint Stephen’s disposition to persevere confidently and to administer mercy generously.
