Growing in Faith (12/5)

The apostles open their hearts and minds to the Lord Jesus. They do so with trust and simplicity. They also know their own faith is imperfect. One day they ask Jesus: “Increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5)

Jesus does not excoriated them for a lack of faith and fire them all on the spot as apostles. Instead, He replies: “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to [this] mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you” (Luke 17:6).

Friends, so it is with every one of us. Our faith can waver when we become aware of limitations and difficulties seem to mount. Intentional disciples seek to understanding ordinary experience from a supernatural point of view. Stated differently, genuine disciples – imperfect as we all remain this side of heaven – live with the end in mind: eternal life with God.

So long as our eyes are fixed squarely on Christ Jesus we need fear nothing. Faith empowers us to achieve results that far exceed our pitiful natural abilities.

Lord Jesus, please increase our faith!
