The Holiest Week Begins Today

HOLY WEEK commences today, PALM SUNDAY.

From the biblical perspective,  “holy” implies that which is “set apart” or “different”. The Church intends for this week to be set apart and different from all other weeks of the year. In the Catholic Christian tradition we have a series of  unique words and actions that set apart our liturgies [or worship] beginning today with the blessings of palms and procession into church. Later this week various rituals will be celebrated together on on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. These differences are intended to help set us apart from that which is not of God and, as a result, to become more closely configured to Christ.

Yet, it remains for us to make choices to see that this week truly is set apart and different. The calendar merely announces special opportunities for God’s graces throughout this week; it is left to us to accept or reject God’s free offerings.

Make choices each day to draw closer to Christ Jesus. Take time daily, however brief, to consider His suffering and death which was entered into for us and our salvation.
