Seventh Beatitude

Blessed the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God (Matthew 5:9).

What a twisted, fallen and broken world it is in which we live.

Roughly 160 miles long and 2.5 miles wide the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) still divides the Korean Peninsula with millions of troops poised and ready for battle. The world hails this as peace.

How different and utterly more profound the biblical truth of peace is from the worldly negotiated settlement resulting in the cessation of armed conflict and open violence.

Peace summarizes everything Christ Jesus did. It hails His very presence and power. And the result of peace is absolutely astonishing: it restores free, easy and personal relationship between divinity and humanity. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection destroys every obstacle preventing true and perfect peace.

The peacemaker works determinedly to advance God’s Kingdom in Jesus’ Holy Name. Christian peace is so much more than the suspension violence and breaking news of diplomatic agreements. Christian peace flows directly from the Cross of Christ. The work of making peace happens by the total out pouring of one’s life in imitation of Christ. Nothing is held in private reserve for a later moment just in case. Peace is the sign that God reigns supreme in a soul. And God will declare such souls as rightful heirs and call them to Himself.

Simply put, peacemakers dedicate their lives to doing what they witnessed Christ Jesus do.
