Saint Thomas / July 3

SAINT THOMAS’ astonishing encounter with the Risen Lord Jesus which we recall today offers us all the splendid occasion for strengthening our own faith, hope and love (John 20:24-29).

First remembered for his strident disbelief in Christ’s resurrection, we can identify with Saint Thomas when daily living is especially hard. Discouragement seeks to cover everyone and it is not easy to overcome if given a place to settle into our hearts.

Oftentimes the door to seeing differently is opened by the joy and compassion of others.

In the Gospel account, Thomas returns to the company of the apostles despite his stubborn disbelief. That is, his friends manage to keep him among them out of genuine care and concern for him.

Everyone is susceptible to moments of disillusionment and blindness. How remarkable it is that our Blessed Lord Jesus will never leave us!
