Saint Catherine of Siena

April 29 marks the feast day of one of the most influential and remarkable saints. SAINT CATHERINE OF SIENA (d. 1380) was a third order Dominican, nurse and mystic who is known especially for her outstanding spirit of prayer and great reservoir of love for Almighty God. She worked tirelessly to help restore peace and unity in the Church during some very turbulent years when the popes were living in exile in Avignon, France. The Lord God inspired Saint Catherine to pave the way for the return of the papacy to Rome and to inaugurate the sorely needed reform of Church life and discipline.

A few days before her death she exclaimed: “If I die, let it be known that I die of passion for the Church.”

Saint Catherine of Siena, pray for us!
