Patienceis the virtue which makes us accept for love of God everything that is displeasing to our nature without allowing ourselves to be depressed by the sadness which easily comes over us when we meet with disagreeable things.
We learn to practice patience by setting our sights squarely on Jesus Who is the perfectly patient One. When we see Him Who came into the world to save us living from the first moment of His earthly existence in want, privation and poverty, and later so misunderstood and persecuted; when we see Him become hated by His own people, betrayed by a friend, arrested and tried and condemned as a criminal, our souls are stirred.
Whatever the total suffering in our lives, never will it even begin to compare with the infinite sufferings of Jesus Who dared to take upon Himself the suffering of all humanity.
