How can a clear and confident life directional heading become murky? Daily direction that was purposeful and fulfilling gives way to difficulties and uncertainties. Lightheartedness in mind and happiness in soul becomes overshadowed by sadness and anxiety.
The change may often be the consequence of personal sins or a failure to respond wholeheartedly to divine grace. Maybe the dust along our way is of our own doing – our disappointments, our miseries, our worries – which then forms a cloud preventing light from above reaching us.
Other times the Lord God may permit a stretch that is less clearly defined as a means of purifying our soul in order that we grow in humility and trust of Him. When we experience this sort of struggle it is as if everything requires more determination and effort.
What is person to do when this happens? Make your way to Jesus all the more earnestly. He always is near. He always hears our prayer. He deeply desires to lavish His boundless mercy upon us. Even though it may seem that He is passing right by – or has passed altogether – He is perfectly aware of our plight.
While we may not know reasons for tough stretches along our way, we can be sure of the remedy: persevering prayer. Make your way to Jesus and sincerely cry out to Him: “Lord, I want to see!” “Lord, please let me see!”
