HUMILITY: DEEPENING THE SPIRIT OF SERVICE

The virtue of HUMILITY readies us for helping others.

In contrast, the vice of PRIDE contaminates everything. For the proud person, nary another is treated respectfully and properly. The proud person expects – indeed, demands consciously and unconsciously –  special treatment because they view themselves as being somehow different.  Stinging criticisms, unilateral declarations and sarcastic quips are voiced by the proud who do not mind casting a poor light upon others so long as they always are seen favorably.

In God’s Presence,  today let us dare to consider how we treat others and determine if our behavior toward them is shaped by genuine humility or controlled by the snare of self-absorption.
