FEAST: Saint Ignatius of Loyola (7/31)

In his own words, SAINT IGNATIUS (d. 1556) recalls pursuing dreams of vainglory. During a long and painful period of recovery from having been injured seriously in a military battle, Ignatius received and read two books that changed the trajectory of his life: one on the life of Jesus, the other on the lives of the saints. Little by little God entered his soul. Ignatius began to wonder what might happen if he dedicated his life for God’s greater glory and honor instead of his own self-ambition and recognition.

The Lord God used the reading of Saint Ignatius as an instrument for his conversion.

Through reading we grow in understanding of our Christian faith and strengthen our resolve to live it in ordinary experience.

A good spiritual reading book is comparable to a good friend.

  • What good spiritual book have you read?
  • What good spiritual book are you reading?
  • What good spiritual book have you shared?

Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, pray for us!
